The arrival of a semi-official sequel to Spielberg’s 1982 blockbuster ET the Extra-Terrestrial in the form of a two-minute Sky broadband ad has unleashed a wave of nostalgia for the original film. The newcomers are an uncanny shade of white. ![]() Then, a closer look and with it the first pinprick of unease. Telescope-necked and saucer-eyed, they will be immediately familiar to cinema-goers of the era. We catch glimpses of the extra-terrestrial visitors amid the undergrowth. It’s the mid-Eighties and in the stereotypically Spielbergian setting of a Redwood forest frequented by kids on bikes the trees reverberate with the pitter-patter of tiny alien feet. But decades ago, Steven Spielberg almost made an official – and much darker – sequel ![]() ET and Elliott have finally been reunited… in a broadband ad.
